Koyambedu market expands function sans public

Retail and small scale vegetable shops too have recommenced on Monday.

Part of the unlocking, Koyambedu had a jagged reopening with wholesale grains market opening first.

On September wholesale vegetable markets were to green-flagged to function, there were reports of coronavirus incidence despite restrictions in place.

Retail vegetable shops too will start functioning in a staggered manner with Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA) allowing shops only from A to G rows.  These rows consist of 800 shops.

However, public is still barred from entering Koyambedu market and only traders could make use of this relaxation. Rajendran, the chief of Trader unions' conglomerate requested slashing of maintenance charges citing non-functionality of the market for months.
