According to a Corporation statement, the 1,977-sqft-land on Subbarayan Second Street at Nammazhvar Pettai in Thiru Vi Ka Nagar has been reclaimed following an order by the Madras High Court.

“The land was leased to certain persons several years ago but they refused to vacate and hand it over to the Chennai Corporation, despite the lease period having ended. The land is worth Rs 56.60 lakh as per the guideline value,” an official said.

He added that the Madras High Court ruled in favour of the civic body, following which the building that was encroached upon the land was demolished.

In January, the civic body had reclaimed 1,280 sqft plot in T Nagar, that is worth Rs 25 crore. In October 2019, the civic body had reclaimed land worth Rs 280 crore from an educational institution in Shenoy Nagar in Anna Nagar, and in August, the officials reclaimed Rs 212 crore land in Kotturpuram.
