As the holidays approach, many people have started to travel to their hometown, even during this pandemic, to celebrate the festival with their family. Considering the festival season, 200 flights are being operated per day from Wednesday at the Chennai airport. While the number of flights was increased, airlines have also started to gradually increase ticket fares.

Usually, a ticket to Madurai from Chennai was only around Rs 3,500. But now, it has increased to Rs 6,000 and for business class tickets, it cost Rs 20,000. Ticket prices to Thoothukudi, Tiruchy and Selam have also increased, besides Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Patna and Hyderabad. However, airport sources said the prices were not increased ahead of Deepavali. “As all the low-cost tickets were sold out, we are now displaying the fare for other categories only,” a source said.
