New cases in Chennai go below 600
Chennai, which was in the eye of the COVID storm, recorded less than 600 new cases on Monday, while the overall cases in the State and the deaths notified too have gone down. Tamil Nadu recorded 2,257 cases, including 585 from Chennai. The deaths notified went down to 18.

Among other districts, Coimbatore recorded 189 new cases, followed by Tiruvallur (125), Chengalpattu (113) and Salem (105).
The 18 deaths notified on Monday included 10 from Chennai, and one each from eight districts. The total number of deaths due to COVID-19 in the State has reached 11,362.
In all, 2,308 persons were discharged after treatment, taking the total number of discharges in Tamil Nadu to 7,15,892. The State now has 18,825 active cases. On Monday, 75,277 samples and 74,508 persons were tested for the infection, according to the bulletin issued by the State Health Department.
