Following Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami’s announcement allowing resumption of bus services to Puducherry, TNSTC resumed operation of about 200 buses which ply to the Union territory and to other districts via Puducherry.

The bus services resumed from Cuddalore, Chidambaram, Tindivanam, Villupuram, Chennai and other district headquarters to Puducherry on Sunday.

A senior official of the transport corporation said, “Following the permission of the Government of Tamil Nadu, we have started the service of more than 200 buses from Chennai to Puducherry and other places via Puducherry yesterday. Of this, 150 buses have been operating directly from Chennai to Pondicherry after seven months.”

The official said that passenger patronage was not much being the first day. “Additional buses will be operated as per demand,” the official added.

Interestingly, the State government gave permission to resume the services to the Union territory following Puducherry Chief Minister V Narayanasamy’s letter to his Tamil Nadu counterpart seeking permission to resume services on the routes.

As Deepavali approaches, the public is demanding the resumption of inter-state bus services, especially to neighbouring states like Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Kerala.
