Active cases in all zones down to 5 per cent or less

According to Corporation data, the city had 9,639 active cases as on Monday morning. The data also shows that nine zones, including Thiru Vi Ka Nagar, Anna Nagar, Kodambakkam, Adyar and Teynampet, have only 4 per cent active cases.

It may be noted that the number of active cases in the city had come down below 10,000 during the third week of September, only to rise again.

Meanwhile, the city reported more than 1.95 lakh COVID-19 cases since the outbreak, of which more than 1.82 lakh persons have recovered. However, 3,592 persons died due to the disease, which is 1.84 per cent mortality rate.

Despite being one of the worst-hit zones during the early days of the pandemic, Tondiarpet has only 366 active cases, which is 2 per cent of the total cases reported from the north Chennai zone.

In terms of the number of active cases, Manali has only 106 active cases, that is 3 per cent.

Anna Nagar has the highest number of active cases with 850 active cases. On the other hand, Teynampet reported 450 COVID deaths, which is the highest. Anna Nagar and Kodambakkam have 403 and 400 deaths respectively.

Despite the decline in active cases, the civic body continues to conduct more tests. On Sunday, 11,059 samples were tested.

Also, the number of containment zones in the city has come down and on Monday, the city had only 12 such zones. A few weeks ago, when the new cases were decreasing, the civic body removed all the containment zones. However, owing to the sudden spike, such zones were increased to 70 a few days ago.
