Police later identified the woman as Vamsika, a model from Bengaluru. She was returning after attending a party. The public said she had been driving the car rashly from Kodambakkam flyover and scared motorists had to intercept her in Vadapalani.

As the crowd started gathering around her vehicle she called somebody on her mobile and within some time a vehicle with BJP flag reached the spot and tried to rescue her in that vehicle.

Police later said that occupant of the vehicle was a BJP south Chennai office-bearer.

The crowd prevented the vehicle and asked the model to apologise before leaving the scene. By the time both apologised, police reached the scene. They found that Vamsika was under the influence of alcohol and booked her for drunken driving.

On Friday evening, while interacting with the media persons, she claimed that she just had a beer and had not caused any accident while driving the vehicle. She also claimed that she was targeted by people because she was driving a Karnataka registration vehicle.
