Police said the deceased N Jeena, a native of Kannur in Kerala, was in her third year of PhD in Radio Chemical Lab (RCL) and was staying in a hostel at JRF Enclave in Kalpakkam Township. Jeena’s elder sister Danya (28) was also staying in Kalpakkam and working as AECS Contract Teacher in Atomic Energy Central School while her husband Suresh is working as a driver in BARC in Kalpakkam.

On Tuesday around 2.30 pm, the hostel in-charge called Jeena’s father Nirmalan (57) over the phone and said his daughter had committed suicide. Soon Nirmalan contacted her elder daughter and son-in-law and asked them to go and check her hostel room. They rushed to the hostel and found Jeena had committed suicide by hanging herself from the ceiling using a dupatta. Kalpakkam police retrieved the body and sent it for post-mortem to Chengalpattu Government Hospital. Police, on checking Jeena’s dairy, found a suicide note in which she said nobody was responsible for her suicide and she committed suicide since she hated to live in this world. Police sources said a case has been registered and Jeena’s mobile phone is being checked thoroughly for recent call logs. Her handwriting on the suicide note will also be verified to confirm whether it was written by herself.
