Parthasarathi (50) is a farmer and realtor from Vaiyavur in Kancheepuram. Six months ago, Parthasarathi had borrowed Rs 6.5 lakh from Lakshmanan from Tindivanam, a financier. But due to the pandemic lockdown, Parthasarathi could not repay it as promised. On Tuesday morning, Lakshmanan and five men went to Parthasarathi’s house. When Parthasarathi’s sister said that he was returning from Chengalpattu, the gang went in search of him. Spotting him on his bike near Palaiyaseevaram, they intercepted and kidnapped Parthasarathi in a car.

Sources said that the gang stopped the vehicle in GST Road near Palaveli village to have lunch at a restaurant. When all of them went inside the restaurant after locking the car door, Parthasarathi used the opportunity to contact the police. DIG B Shamoondeswari directed officials to track and nab the kidnappers. The Chengalpattu Town police rushed to the spot and rescued him, and arrested Mainkandan, Viji, Michael Raj, Santhosh and Rajarathinam from Tindivanam. However, Lakshmanan managed to escape from the spot, said officials, adding that they were searching for him. The car used for the kidnap was seized and all of them were remanded in judicial custody.
