Sreejan Nair of Valayam in Kozhikode, Kerala, who was attached to the 77th battalion of CRPF in Karayanchavadi near Poonamallee, lived in a rented house with his wife and two children in Kattupakkam, said police.

He reported for duty as usual on Tuesday morning and went to his cabin around 9.30 am. Minutes afterwards, his colleagues heard a firing sound from his cabin. When they rushed in, they found Sreejan lying in a pool of blood, after having shot himself in the neck. They rushed him to a private hospital in Porur where he was declared brought dead. On information, the Poonamallee police sent his body for post-mortem examination.

In the suicide note addressed to his superior that was retrieved from his cabin, he had stated that no one was directly or indirectly responsible for his extreme step. Sreejan thanked his colleagues and sought his superior to forgive him for his decision treating him as his brother. “I’m going to a problem-less world,” he said in the note, also requesting to cremate his body in Chennai and not to send it to his hometown. After preliminary inquiry, police believe Sreejan could have ended his life due to some family dispute. A case has been registered and further investigation is on.
