A 34-year-old man was hacked to death by a gang of five in Pulianthope on Tuesday night and eight suspects surrendered at Red Hills police station on Wednesday.

The deceased E Ramesh Babu alias ‘Naai’ Ramesh has several cases including murder charges pending against him and police suspect he could have been murdered for revenge.

Ramesh Babu was walking home around 9.30 pm when at Gurusamy Nagar the gang on two-wheelers attacked him with weapons. Basin Bridge police registered a case and launched a hunt for the suspects with the help of CCTV footage.

Meanwhile, eight men surrendered in connection with the murder at Red Hills police station on Wednesday. They were identified as Vijayakumar (31), Sarathkumar (30), Surya (26), Rakesh Kumar (25), Sathya (24), Sankar (40), Abinesh (24) and Vigneshkumar (26). They were handed over to Basin Bridge police and further investigation is on.

Similarly, five men surrendered in connection with a murder in Mangadu police station limits on September 6.

The victim was identified as auto driver S Madhavan (20) of Iyyapanthangal. Mangadu police registered a case and arrested four persons — V Surya (19), R Saravanan (29), N Suresh (18) and S Rajesh (24). On Tuesday, five more suspects surrendered at the police station. They were identified as N Veera (25), A Arun (25), P Sounderrajan (25), M Ajithkumar (24) and E Babu (21).

Police said the murder was out of a petty quarrel after Madhavan hit the main accused Surya’s two-wheeler by mistake.
