    Tondiarpet becomes first zone to take active cases down to 5 per cent

    The active cases in Chennai have come down to less than eight per cent, with Tondiarpet zone becoming the first zone to take it down to 5 per cent. In absolute numbers, Anna Nagar and Kodambakkam have the highest number of active cases, while Alandur is on top in terms of percentage.

    According to data from the Greater Chennai Corporation, the zone in north Chennai reported 11,963 COVID-19 cases till Monday morning, of which only 633 are active cases. In all, the city has 11,264 active cases, which is only eight per cent of the total reported cases of 1,41,654.

    Tondiarpet had topped the sero-survey conducted by the civic body to identify the antibodies level against the virus. Among the 866 persons surveyed in the zone, 383 samples had antibodies, which is 44.2 per cent. Royapuram zone had the second highest number with 34.4 per cent of the samples having antibodies.

    Tiruvottiyur, Royapuram and Teynampet zones have six per cent active cases, whereas active cases at Manali and Thiru Vi Ka Nagar are 7 per cent. Ambattur, Anna Nagar, Kodambakkam and Adyar have eight per cent active cases and Madhavaram has nine per cent active cases.

    Alandur has 13 per cent active cases, which is highest in the city. Sholinganallur, Valasaravakkam and Perungudi have more than 10 per cent active cases. Anna Nagar and Kodambakkam have the highest number of active cases with 1,254 and 1,221 active cases respectively. Manali has only 156 active cases, which is the lowest.
