Co-workers kill labourer in fight over wages
A 45-year-old construction labourer was beaten to death by two co-workers under the influence of alcohol in a fight over sharing the wages.

The deceased Marimuthu, and suspects Mohan and Babu are native of Uthukottai and stayed at the under-construction site in Vellanur. On Sunday, the supervisor, Ajiz, gave Rs 6,000 to Marimuthu
and asked him to share it with other workers. However, Marimuthu is said to have taken a commission from others’ wages after which they got drunk at the construction site itself.
An argument broke out between the three under the influence of alcohol and Marimuthu called Ajiz and asked another Rs 4,000. However, when Ajiz reached the spot with the cash, Marimuthu was found lying in a pool of blood.
He was rushed to the nearby hospital, but declared brought dead. Based on Ajiz’s complaint, Avadi Tank Factory police registered a case and picked up Mohan and Babu for interrogation. The duo is said to have admitted that they killed Marimuthu as he took a share in their wages. They would be remanded in judicial custody on Tuesday, said officials.
Similarly, the Ashok Nagar police arrested a 41-year-old man for strangulating his friend to death. The accused Ramesh of Kodungaiyur and the deceased Dhanasekaran (45) of T Nagar met at their common friend Victor’s house in Ashok Nagar to consume liquor on Saturday night. Later, Victor found Dhanasekaran dead in the front portion of his house while Ramesh was missing. Based on his complaint, the police registered a case and sent the body for post-mortem examination.
As he was strangulated to death, a hunt was launched for Ramesh, who was picked up from his hideout. Investigation revealed that he killed Ramesh as the latter pledged his phone without his knowledge. He was remanded in judicial custody.
