Duo caught during vehicle check with stolen scooter

Police said that the bike belongs to one Sounderrajan of TNHB Colony in Semmanchery, who had lodged a complaint on September 1 that unidentified men broke open his house and escaped with valuables, including TV, laptop, LPG cylinder, two gram gold and silver articles, apart from his scooter, when he was at his hometown.

The stolen scooter was seized during a vehicle check in Kumaran Nagar on Friday night. Investigation revealed that the duo stole Sounderrajan’s two-wheeler to use it for snatchings. Other valuables too were seized from the duo before they were remanded in judicial custody on Saturday.

The Semmanchery police also arrested a chain snatcher who escaped with 2.5 sovereigns from a woman. The chain was seized from the accused identified as Jaison of Kannagi Nagar, who was hiding in Saidapet. A special team combed footage retrieved from several CCTV cameras to nab the accused.

Similarly, the Tondiarpet police arrested two men who stole valuables from a house in Old Washermenpet on Friday. The accused, Manikandan (24) of Korukkupet and Deepak Kumar (22) of Tondiarpet, were remanded in custody.
