    Active cases in 7 city zones less than 10 pc

    Even though the city reports more than 1,000 new cases every day, seven of the 15 zones of Greater Chennai Corporation have less than 10 per cent active cases, while one zone has 10 per cent active cases.

    According to Chennai Corporation data, Tondiarpet zone has only 6 per cent active cases with 736 active cases an on Wednesday morning. Meanwhile, Tiruvottiyur, Manali and Royapuram have 7 per cent active cases against total cases reported in the zones. The zones have 306, 158 and 962 active cases respectively.

    Thiru Vi Ka Nagar and Kodambakkam have 9 per cent active cases, while Anna Nagar has 10 per cent active cases. Overall, the city has 13,107 active cases, which is only 10 per cent against the 1,20,820 cases reported since the outbreak.

    Except for Alandur zone that has 16 per cent active cases, all the other 14 zones have less than 15 per cent active cases. Meanwhile, 2,770 COVID-19 victims had died in the city, which is 2.03 per cent mortality rate.

    Among the zones, Teynampet recorded the highest number of deaths as 387 persons died, which is 2.92 per cent of 11,976 infected persons. Despite registering 130 deaths, which is lower than most of the zones, the mortality rate in the zone is second highest after Teynampet.

    As many as 307 persons died in Anna Nagar and 296 persons died in Kodambakkam zone. Meanwhile, Manali, Madhavaram, Alandur, Perungudi and Sholinganallur - extended zones - have recorded less than 100 deaths.
