    Car goes up in flames near Adambakkam, no casualties

    A man driving a luxury car had a narrow escape after the vehicle caught fire while he was returning home around midnight near Adambakkam on Wednesday. The owner who was driving the car managed to get out after spotting smoke, and was saved from being injured in the fire.

    According to the police, Saravanan (31) of Velachery is working as an engineer at a private company in Ramapuram. Around midnight on Wednesday, Saravanan was returning home on his car, a BMW, after finishing his work. As he driving on Vanuvampet-Velachery 200 feet road, the fire indicator in the vehicle went off. Saravanan also noticed that smoke was coming from the air-conditioner vent.

    Realising something was wrong, he immediately stopped the vehicle and got off. Within a few minutes, the car caught on fire and was gutted, police said. The Fire and Rescue Services team from Velachery arrived at the spot and doused the fire. The Adambakkam police suspect short circuit to be the cause and are investigating further.
