    TNEA: Applications cross 1.5 lakh for the first time

    For the first time, the online registration of the students seeking engineering admissions crossed 1.5 lakh, with more candidates expected to enrol this week.

    A senior official from the Directorate of Technical Education (DoTE) told DT Next that as on Monday night, the number of applications stood at 1,48,626 and another 2,000 applications were received till Tuesday evening, taking the total tally to little more than 1.5 lakh.

    In comparison, the number of applications was only 1.3 lakh.

    The official said 1.47 lakh engineering seats are available in about 500 engineering colleges across the State.

    So far, 1,18,704 candidates have paid their registration fees, and about 80 per cent candidates have uploaded their original certificates, said the official.

    “As August 16 is the last date for registration, another 10,000 applications are expected,” he said.

    Stating that the rank list would be declared on September 7, he said the general counselling would start from September 17.
