Kanchi, Tiruvallur, Chengalpattu together report more cases than city
The State recorded 5,875 new cases of COVID-19 on Sunday and of the total numbers, the combined tally of Kancheepuram, Tiruvallur and Chengalpattu was 1,156, whereas Chennai reported only 1,065 fresh cases, highlighting the rampant spread of the virus in the city outskirts. The State tally has reached 2,57,613.

However, the fatality rate in the State continued to remain high with 98 more deaths reported on Sunday. Of these, 23 were reported in private hospitals, while 75 were in government hospitals. While 90 people died of co-morbidities, eight people did not have any underlying health issues and succumbed to COVID-19 Pneumonia and Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome. The Tamil Nadu toll has reached 4,132 and of the total deaths, 2,157 have been reported from Chennai.
While Chengalpattu again reported a slight surge with 446 cases, Kancheepuram and Tiruvallur reported 393 and 317 cases respectively. Virudhunagar continued to report high numbers with 337 cases and several other districts, including Coimbatore, Ranipet, Theni, Cuddalore, Madurai, Kanniyakumari and Vellore also reported significant number of fresh cases in the past 24 hours.
With continued focus on sample testing, the Health bulletin said 60,344 samples were tested in the past 24 hours. The number of those discharged from across the State on Sunday stood at 5,517.
