While police had detained Kumar for investigation on Sunday, he was produced before the magistrate and remanded on Monday, said police. Though Kumar has been arrested based on the complaint by Lakshmipathy, father of Idhayavarman, he has not been named in the FIR registered based on Lakshmipathy’s complaint, which has names such as K Raguraman, M Janarthanam and M Shanmugam, along with 50 others.
Kumar who was undergoing treatment at a private hospital on ECR was detained on Sunday night for inquiry and remanded. On the MLA Idhayavarman’s side, so far 13 persons have been arrested, including him.
The clash broke out on Saturday afternoon near Sagothiamman temple, a few metres away from Tiruporur MLA Idhayavarman’s residence. When Kumar allegedly tried to level land to provide access to his parcel of land, the legislator’s group had opposed it. They had objected since the “land levelled” was “public” in nature pending a civil dispute.
While Kumar claims in his complaint that Lakshmipathy got into an argument with his earthmover operator for levelling the pathway in his land, Lakshmipathy in his complaint claims that he only went to mediate as two groups of men were arguing over a land dispute.
After the argument escalated into a physical fight and vehicles were damaged on both sides, MLA Idhayavarman and his father Lakshmipathy allegedly opened fire towards Kumar in which a passer-by, Srinivasan of the nearby village, suffered injuries. Srinivasan too, in his complaint, stated that he suffered injuries after Idhayavarman opened fire at him.
