Chennai
The deceased was identified as Rajasekaran of Samminadan Street in Guduvanchery. Police sources said Rajasekaran was devastated since he couldn’t open the shop properly for the past three months. Even when there was relaxation in lockdown and his provision store was open, Rajasekaran failed to get any business as his shop was located near the bus stop and the buses were not running.
Sources said Rajasekaran was unable to pay the money which he borrowed for developing his business and even stopped talking to others. On Wednesday morning, Rajasekaran opened the shop and was sitting inside as usual. In the afternoon, using a nylon rope, Rajasekaran hanged himself from the fan hook. One of the customers who came to the shop was shocked to see the body and informed Guduvanchery police. Police sent the body for postmortem to Chengalpattu GH and have registered a case. According to police sources, as many as 14 suicide cases were reported in Chengalpattu and Kancheepuram alone for reasons related to lockdown and corona scare.
