In a tweet, the Minister said that he was delighted and thanks to the dedicated efforts of 2,300 field staff and officers working in Tondiarpet zone, the daily growth rate of active cases has reduced from 6 per cent to 1.5 per cent between June 9 and 23. “Clear signs of flat curve,” he wrote.
As on Monday, the total number of positive cases in Tondiarpet stood at 5,227 as against the city’s total of 42,785 cases. Of the positive cases in the zone, 2,347 are undergoing treatment while 2,796 recovered and 84 passed away. On June 9, the total cases in the zone were 3,019, with 1,908 active cases and 26 deaths.
When a social media user pointed out that active cases growth rate will reduce because of more recoveries, the minister pointed out that testing in Tondiarpet zone has been increased by three-fold over the last fortnight but still the average daily new cases have remained at 158, a notch less than the previous fortnight. “Tracing, testing, tracking, treating & technology is working synergistically on the ground in @chennaicorp,” he tweeted.
