    Five officers from intelligence wing will get Chief Minister’s gallantry medal and Rs 5 lakh each for their work in capturing jihadis in January this year.

    The officers selected are N Kannan, DIG, internal security; J Mahesh, SP, Q-branch; S Aravind, SP, special division; P Pandarinathan, DSP, special intelligence unit, Coimbatore; and M Damodaran, inspector, special division.

    A government order issued on Thursday said the officers will be honoured with the medal for their courageous efforts, outstanding detective work and collection of intelligence (operation Quanto) on the activities of notorious fundamental elements, who were preparing to wage jihad in different parts of the country, and dissemination of information to intelligence to various states concerned.

    After ISIS operative Khaja Moideen and his associates, who were on bail, escaped from Tamil Nadu and established contacts with other such modules in different parts of the country, the State police intelligence wing sleuths managed to track down them, but not before SSI Wilson was shot dead on TN-Kerala border in Kanniyakumari by a militant.
