So far, the survey workers used notebooks to write down details of the residents and their conditions. The feature has been added in the ‘GCC Corona Monitoring’ application, which is already being used by the city residents and sanitary inspectors. Using the application, residents can upload their health conditions to seek medical assistance.

“The new feature is to capture fever surveillance data. The sector workers are instructed to enter complete details of symptomatic patients in the application. Instruction has been given to start using the mobile application from Monday,” a civic official said. The official added that infra-red thermometers would be distributed among the workers to record body temperatures of residents. “The workers should also upload photographs of the residents along with door numbers for verification,” he said. Chennai Corporation had appointed around 14,000 sector health workers soon after cases were reported in the city. These workers, who are working temporarily, have been given the task to visit houses in their respective sectors and identify symptomatic persons.

In another development, the civic body has also constituted ‘COVID-19 Response Teams’ in division level to implement micro-level containment plan. The 200 teams will be headed by assistant engineers of the respective divisions. The release added that the civic body, along with the Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (CMWSSB) will install more water tanks in containment areas, especially in slums, to avoid overcrowding.
