Health worker ties thali without nod of ‘bride'
A 31-year-old man, working as Corporation’s temporary staff to deal with the pandemic in Muthamizh Nagar, Kodungaiyur, shocked the residents there when he allegedly barged into a house and tied mangal sutra (a sacred thread tied to solemnise marriage) around the neck of a 21-year-old woman, without her permission, on Sunday.

Though the father of the woman lodged a complaint with the police initially, he withdrew it later after both the parties agreed not to disturb each other in the future.
Police said the man claimed that he had been watching the woman for the last two months and has fallen for her. He believed that she too had the same feeling towards him. “It is not clear if she had responded favourably, but she was certainly not ready for something like what had happened on Sunday,” police noted.
The lovelorn man, a resident of Korukupetta, reached the woman’s house, walked in and to her shock tied a thali on her neck.
When she protested and started shouting at him, a group of men, who had accompanied the ‘bridegroom’, entered the house and tried to drag her out of the house. However, she managed to hold on to some fixed object in the house and they could not take her out.
Meanwhile, hearing her cries neighbours gathered at the spot and started thrashing the intruders. Soon, the ‘groom’ and his men took to their heels.
Later the woman’s father lodged a police complaint against the health worker, which was withdrawn after a few rounds of peace talks involving the two sides, police said.
