Anna Univ staff raise concern over quarantine centre on campus
The quarantine centre set up inside Anna University for stranded persons has raised concerns over the safety of University employees are samples are being taken in the open.

“Chennai Corporation is sheltering stranded persons, who came from other States and countries, at Knowledge Park building inside the university. Departments such as IT, ECE, CSE and Printing technology are functioning very close to the quarantine centre. We are in fear,” a temporary lecturer said.
She added that even though classes are not being conducted, other official works are going on. Expressing fear of contracting the virus, she lamented that officials are collecting samples from those who arrive at the centre in the open. They are allowed to wander until the samples are taken.
“A few days ago, five persons, who were staying inside the University, tested positive. The officials should take measures to streamline the sample collection and contain the inmates in one area,” she urged.
When contacted, a Chennai Corporation official said that proper safety protocols are being followed while collecting samples. “If the staff express fear, we will prevent returnees from roaming the campus,” he assured.
Apart from Anna University, the civic body has converted several educational institutions as quarantine centres to isolate persons returning to the city.
