COVID +ve infant dies hours after delivery

According to sources, the child’s father was infected by the virus. It was only a few days ago that the man was discharged from the hospital after treatment. On Wednesday, his wife was admitted to the Chengalpattu government hospital after developing labour pain.

On Thursday morning, she gave birth to a girl. However, much to the shock of the family and doctors, the baby died within just a few hours.

The doctors who checked the body confirmed that the baby was infected by coronavirus. After preliminary enquiry, doctors said the child’s mother seem to have got the infection from the father. And from her, it could have transmitted to the baby.

However, sources added, it was not yet confirmed if the mother of the child had coronavirus. Her samples were collected to test whether she was infected by the virus, officials added.
