500 Indians land in city from UK, Philippines
Over 500 Indians, stranded in European countries and the Philippines, were brought back to India on special Air India flights on Friday. Meanwhile, of the 333 passengers who landed here from London, only a mere six per cent opted for government-sponsored quarantine while 94 per cent drove straight to paid facilities in city’s star hotels.

There were as many as 100 medical students among the 167 passengers in the special flight from Manila that landed at Chennai airport at 10 pm on Thursday. After swab test for COVID and the routine Customs and immigration checkup, they boarded special buses arranged by the government to the quarantine camp.
In another flight from London on Friday morning, as many as 333 Indians, including 18 children, arrived at Chennai airport. Sources said the majority of the passengers did not opt for the free stay. Only 20 of them, including a child, proceeded to the government-sponsored quarantine facility at Melakottaiyur, while the remaining 313 passengers left for private star hotels. All of them will be kept in quarantine for 14 days.
