174 cases, 1 death recorded in city, State’s total touches 2,757
Tamil Nadu recorded a total of 231 new positive cases of COVID-19 on Saturday, including 174 cases in Chennai alone. The total number of cases in the State has now gone up to 2,757 while the city’s number reached 1,257.

Among the major clusters in the city, large number of cases were reported among the Koyambedu market cluster and ThiruVi-Ka Nagar house prayer cluster. A photographer with a news agency also tested positive for COVID19 on Saturday. Among the Greater Chennai Corporation zones, Thiru-Vi-Ka Nagar, Tondiarpet and Royapuram recorded majority of the cases.
Of the total number of 37 primary cases, 36 of them were from Chennai. Even among the contact cases recorded in the city, at least 70 percent cases are under investigation for the source of infection.
One more death was recorded in the Chennai, taking the death toll to 29 in the State. A 76-year-old female patient admitted to Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital succumbed to the infection on Friday at 05.30 pm.
The first case of COVID19 in a transgender was also reported on Saturday. A total of six children below the age of 10 years, including a 14-day-old child was tested positive. Currently, a total of 159 children below the age of 12 years have tested positive in the State.
Among the other districts, Ariyalur recorded 18 cases, Kancheepuram and Thiruvallur recorded 15 and seven cases respectively. Chengalpattu recorded five cases, while Cuddalore, Perambalur, Ramanathapuram, Tirupur and Villupuram recorded two cases each. Coimbatore, Madurai, Salem and
Theni recorded one case each on Saturday. Currently, 12 of the 37 districts in the State remain in the red zone, while other districts except Krishnagiri are in orange zone. Krishnagiri continues to remain in the green zone.
