With the Greater Chennai Corporation continuing to paste quarantine stickers at homes of returnees from abroad, several of these people are in a quandary over how to purchase essentials as they have been banned from stepping out.

"I do not have symptoms but officials have asked us to stay home and have put up stickers. The Corporation should make arrangements to supply food items," a quarantined resident said. According to Corporation data, more than 20,000 houses have been quarantined.

Corporation Commissioner G Prakash said that quarantined people could always avail of services from e-commerce companies by placing baskets outside their houses or can complain on the number 1913.

Many have also raised objections to stickers being put up without their consent. An official explained that earlier, the stickers had harsh messages creating more panic. "The new stickers have toned down. However, space should have been allotted for residents’ signatures," the official added.

Interestingly, the civic body also tweeted that those residing in quarantined houses are just returned from abroad and not infected. "Do not hurt them by believing rumours. They are staying indoors voluntarily," the tweet read
