Three teenaged girls drown in Nemam lake

The victims were identified as M Darshini of Tambaram, S Sandhya and R Sowmya of Koodapakkam TNHB quarters. Passers-by rescued their friend Aiswarya and her mother Kumari.

The police said that Kumari had taken her daughter and friends to the lake and while playing there, the girls went into the deeper side. When she saw them drowning, she raised an alarm and villagers came to their rescue. While they managed to rescue Kumari and her daughter, others drowned. The police said Darshini was visiting her relatives in Koodapakkam village when the incident happened.
