Karthick (30), who works in a private firm, was staying with his family in the shed on the terrace of the house. On the ground floor, his father Kesavan was staying. On Monday, Karthick, his wife and their 18-month-old baby were watching TV when they noticed smoke inside the hut and rushed outside. Within a few minutes, the flames engulfed the shed. Karthick, along with the neighbours, tried to douse the fire but it was uncontrollable. On information, two fire engines from Tambaram rushed to the spot and doused the fire after an hour. The Pallavaram police, who arrived at the spot, investigated and concluded that a short circuit in the wiring caused the fire. The police said that household goods were gutted in the fire and a case has been registered.
