However, a senior official from Tamil Nadu State Marketing Corporation (Tasmac) told DT Next that the liquor sales is expected to touch Rs 150 crore on Saturday, as people would purchase extra liquor to stock it for Sunday.

The Home and Excise department issued strict order to the Tasmac salesmen to close all the liquor shops sharply by 10 pm on Saturday. “Strict action will be taken if anyone indulges in liquor sales on Sunday,” a senior Excise official said.

He said order was also given to the Tasmac salesmen to not sell liquor in bulk quantity to a single person, as there would be a possibility of illegal sale on Sunday. “This order is applicable for elite liquor shops, too,” he added.
