‘Blue Punisher’ pills seized for 2nd time in city

Acting on a tip-off that a parcel containing narcotics is likely to be smuggled into India from Europe through the foreign post office, the postal intelligence of Air Customs detained a parcel at Meenambakkam on Friday and seized tablets that are known to drug users as ‘Blue Punisher’ worth Rs 6.6 lakh.

The unregistered parcel was sent from France. On examination, it was found to contain blue coloured tablets and two plastic pouches containing white crystalline powder. The customs tested both the tablets and the powder with the narcotics field testing kit and prima facie tested positive for MDMA, a narcotics substance. The parcel contained 158 blue pills weighing 77 grams and white crystalline powder weighing 19 grams. The goods were recovered and seized and sent to the Central Revenue Laboratory.

The officials found out that the parcel was destined to a house in Arumbakkam. When officials reached the address, there was no building but small huts. During the investigation, officials found that the address pertained to a building which was demolished 10 years ago. The Customs are investigating who could have sent the parcel to a non-existent address.

MDMA is known as Ecstasy and can alter mood and perception. It is chemically similar to both stimulants and hallucinogens which produce a feeling of increased energy and pleasure. The seized blue tablets are known as ‘Punisher pills’ and are said to be three times stronger than most of the other forms of Ecstasy pills.

In a similar case nearly 10 days ago, MDMA tablets worth Rs 30 lakh were seized from the foreign post office.
