In his press statement, CMDA Member-Secretary D Karthikeyan requested the public and traders not to believe rumours that the market has been closed because of COVID-19 threat. “Stern action would be taken against those spreading such false news among the public,” he warned.
The statement also clarified that measures have been taken to screen passengers visiting the Chennai Mofussil Bus Terminus (CMBT) and a disinfection drive has been carried out in and around the market and CMBT.
Meanwhile, footfall to the Koyambedu wholesale market has reduced and prices of vegetables have come down.
All vehicles entering the market are being disinfected since Wednesday.
