A Neelamma (60) of Shadnagar in Mahbubnagar district in the then Andhra Pradesh poisoned her husband Anjayya and her four children — Kavitha, Rajeshkanna, Mayuri and Santhoshkumar — when she was in her mid-30s due to differences and left the house. Her mental health deteriorated as she thought she killed her family and was roaming on the streets.

She was rescued from Panaiyur in February, 2019, and admitted to Little Hearts Home for Women in Vettuvankani. After she started recollecting her past, inspector Thahira of State Crime Records Bureau (SCRB), who is actively involved in reuniting missing persons with their families, was contacted.

The inspector collected details from Neelamma and shared it with training IPS officer Ritiraj posted at Shadnagar police station. The local police located Neelamma’s family and found out that all her children were alive, while her husband Anjaya died in 2007 of illness.

Her children, who are now married and settled in different places, were contacted and informed about her mother. The family reached the city on Tuesday and took their mother with them.

Inspector Thahira said that families of two more women in the home have also been traced to Karnataka and Bihar and added that they will also be reunited soon.
