    Anna University proposes filing IPR for students’ projects

    In a bid to encourage the engineering students across Tamil Nadu for their innovative projects, Anna University has launched a proposal to support them by making them file Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) besides providing funds, technology transfer and start up activities.

    Accordingly, the IPR, which will be started from the coming academic year, will be jointly owned by the university and the inventors.


    The funds, provided by the university to the students, will be utilised related to the project for the fabrication of instruments, equipment, travel purposesamong others.


    Sources from Centre for Technology Development and Transfer (CTDT) of Anna University said that any full time under-graduate students in second year or third year of university department, regional campuses and constituent colleges can participate in the programme.


    The participating group consisting of three students will develope innovative prototype process and product, which wouldbenefit the public.


    “Preference will be given to interdisciplinary innovative projects (students coming from different branches)”, a senior staff from the CTDT said.


    He added that the innovative project proposal should contain the objectives, research methodology, deliverables and the budget requirement for developing the prototype product, component, system and process.


    Stating that screening of the projects will be done by the expert committee, he said, “The students have to present their proposals before the committee through proper presentation alongwith mentor”.


    “Once the projects were selected, funds will be released,” he said adding “After successful completion of the project, the CTDT will further support to file IPR, incubation, technology transfer and startup activities.


    After the successful completion of the project, the students and the mentor will receive an appreciation certificate. In addition, the projects will be reviewed by expert committee and the best product developed will be awarded cash prize and certificate.
