Woman, daughter and niece drown in Chengalpattu lake

According to the police, Rajeswari, whose husband passed away a few years ago, was working in a private firm and living with her two children, Subashini (10) and Kaviya (8). On Saturday morning, Rajeswari, Subashini and her brother’s daughter Devadarshini (6) went to the lake for washing clothes. They left Kaviya behind at home as she was unwell. As they did not return for a long time, Kaviya informed the neighbours. The villagers who went in search found the clothes which they took for washing on the lakebed.

On suspicion, the villagers searched the lake and found that all three had drowned. The bodies were recovered and the Chengalpattu Taluk police who visited the spot sent them for postmortem examination at Chengalpattu GH. The police suspect that the two children who were playing in the lake might have drowned while Rajeswari was washing the clothes. Rajeswari could have tried to save them, but ended drowning, suspect the officials.

The Chengalpattu Taluk police have registered a case and further inquiry is on.
