The total number of polling stations and exclusive polling stations for male and female voters have come down marginally as per the final list of polling station released by the Greater Chennai Corporation.

According to the final list released on Friday, the Corporation would have 134 polling stations each for male and female voters for the upcoming local body elections.
Earlier, the civic body had released draft polling stations list that had 135 polling stations each for male and female voters.
“In overall, there would be 5,758 polling stations in the city as we reduced the total number of polling booths from 5,789. Of them, 5,490 are general polling stations,” a Corporation official said.
After releasing the draft list, the civic body had conducted a meeting with the representatives of political parties, who requested some changes. The civic body has changed the list based on the suggestions.
“The number of voters for one polling booth should not exceed 1,400 voters. However, we prepared the list by including 1,350 or 1,360 voters to have a buffer. We expect new voters would apply for name inclusion. In those cases, the buffer would help us. Or, we would be forced to prepare a fresh list of polling stations,” the official added.
