According to a senior fisheries department official, in addition to the kayaks, there are also plans to launch other water sports in the lake. Users will have to wear life jackets, and a life guard will be available.

The lake is spread over nine acres and has two islands.

To start with, the State Fisheries Department intends to put 10 kayaks for the public to use. The rates for this activity are still being worked out, but the official added that they plan to keep the cost of hire nominal rate to that it can be enjoyed by a larger number of people.

Last year, the lake went dry and it was desilted ahead of monsoon. The rainwater catchment has helped the water body levels go up to around seven feet, which is conducive for recreational water sports.

The fisheries department which maintains the nine acres lake also plans to conduct summer special camps for children during the summer vacations. The timing for kayaking is likely to be from 6 am to 11 am and then again from 3 pm to 6 pm sources said.
