Metro Rail commissions 330 KW rooftop solar plant at Egmore station

The Chennai Metro Rail has commissioned a 330-kilowatt rooftop solar power plant at Egmore station as part of its plan to harness green energy.

“CMRL now has commissioned an additional 330 KW rooftop plant at Egmore. So far, a total of 5.83 MW capacity solar power has been commissioned,” an official release said.


The CMRL has planned to commission 8 MW of solar power capacity by 2020. “After commissioning of the 8 MW, the CMRL would be generating 1.16 crore units of energy per year and it would help save Rs 2.54 crore a year towards energy cost. Carbon emission would be reduced up to 11,587 tonnes per year,” it said.


Meanwhile, CMRL, in association with the Chamber of Health and Biotech Industries will conduct free medical health camp for the benefit of the Metro passengers, public and women at six Metro stations - Vadapalani, Shenoy Nagar, Airport, Alandur, Ashok Nagar and Central – on the occasion of International Women’s day on Sunday from 9 am to 12 pm and 4 pm to 7 pm.


“The general screening camp will consist of BMI, blood pressure, random blood sugar, consultation, etc. The medical camp is a free consultation and Metro passengers, public and women passengers are requested to make use of the opportunity and get benefited,” the release added.
