Student beaten up for being ‘friendly’ with college junior

The victim was identified as S Nagoor Babu of Andhra Pradesh. The police said that he is a student of an engineering college in Poonamallee and stays at a private hostel in Karambakkam. He is said to have become friends with a second-year student of the same stream.

Meanwhile, the girl’s ex-lover, Anbu from her neighbourhood, reportedly came to know that she spends time with Nagoor and clicks photos with him. While Anbu recently warned Nagoor Babu to stay away from the girl, he ignored Anbu.

On Monday morning, Anbu came to the college with his friends on two bikes and asked Nagoor to go with them to talk. They took him to Anbu’s house in Nazaretpet.

The gang allegedly attacked him with pipes and kicked him after locking him in a room. He was attacked for not ending the friendship with the girl even after warnings from Anbu.

After he was lett off, Nagoor returned to his hotel and informed his uncle Thyagarajan about the incident over phone.

Thyagarajan accompanied Nagoor to the Nazarethpet police station to lodge a complaint. Based on the complaint, a case was registered under Sections 147 (rioting), 148 (hurting), 323 (hurting), 324 (attacking with weapons), 342 (wrongful confinement), 506(2) (criminal intimidation) of IPC.

The police secured the accused — Anbu, Ilangovan, Ilanchezhiyan alias Abi and Jebakumar. They were remanded in judicial custody on Thursday and a hunt has been launched for an absconding accused — Prabakran. The police added that Nagoor has not suffered any life-threatening injuries and he was treated in a hospital.
