Even as the anti-CAA, NPR and NRC protests being held in Washermanpet in solidarity with the Shaheen Bagh protests are still going strong, a poster by a BJP cadre promising Rs 1 crore to any individual who can prove if an Indian citizen would be affected by the Citizenship Act, has surfaced in the city. It is on display near Poonamallee High Road, Mount Road, and near Pachiyappa’s College besides other areas.

According to Thangavel K, a BJP cadre from Namakkal who put up the posters, this is an effort to raise awareness among the people on false information surrounding CAA. “Due to much false information spread by the media, our Muslim brothers and sisters are distressed over an issue that doesn’t exist.
Nowhere in the Act does it call for parent’s documentation proof, nor does it call for any documents you may not be able to provide,” he said.
Thangavel also said that NPR will call only for documents like Aadhaar card, which every citizen will be able to provide. The protests and backlash against the Act is a move to indict fear among Indian Muslims, he added. “The Rs 1 crore will come out my own pocket. If anyone can show me even one person affected by the Act, I’ll gladly part with my money. The contest is open throughout India,” he said.
Meanwhile, Chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswami on Tuesday accused the opposition DMK of confusing the people of Tamil Nadu on CAA, stating, for the second consecutive day that the Act would not pose danger to the people living in the State.
“You (DMK) are cheating the public. Please tell us who is affected in TN because of CAA. We want to find a solution to this. Tamil Nadu is a peaceful state. Show me at least one person who is now affected in TN because of CAA, I will take action,” EPS said at the Assembly. “Give us case laws, show us examples of how the minorities born in Tamil Nadu are affected by CAA. All you want is to disrupt peace in TN. I am ready to answer and arrive at a solution, but show me the proof.” The fifth day of the continuous protests saw women taking the forefront, with numbers amounting to nearly 5,000.
