Apart from the drugs, a car, two two-wheelers and three mobile phones have also been seized from the accused identified as A Mohammed Azaruddin (26) of Mannady, M Khadar Moideen (27) of Royapuram and R Rajesh (23) of Old Washermenpet.

Based on a tip-off, the Tiruvottiyur police nabbed Khader Moideen from Ennore Express Road. Based on his inputs, the others were secured. Investigation revealed that the trio received the contraband from one Sultan of Avadi, who is said to be smuggling drugs from Mumbai.

“Both Mohammed Azaruddin and Khadar Moideen have been arrested for similar cases earlier. Azaruddin said that he is into used car business, but we suspect that they should be into smuggling full time. They sell one gram of methamphetamine for Rs 1,500 to Rs 2,000 to college students,” said Tiruvottiyur Assistant Commissioner Anand Kumar.

While the trio was remanded in judicial custody, a hunt has been launched for Sultan.
