The deceased has been identified as Murugan (32), a history-sheeter with murder cases pending against him in KK Nagar and Tirunelveli apart from other criminal cases. The police suspect that he could have been murdered in a revenge attack.

The incident happened around 5.30 pm when Murugan, a native of Tirunelveli, was at his house on School Street with his two children. His wife was out for work. Five men, who reached his house, hurled country bombs to open the door and hacked him in front of his kids.

While Murugan collapsed and died on the spot in a pool of blood, the gang fled. On information, the Kundrathur police rushed to the spot and removed his body to send it for post-mortem examination. A case has been registered and a hunt has been launched for the unidentified gang. The police suspect that a gang that was found moving in a suspicious manner in Sriperumpudur might have carried out the murder and further investigation is on.
