Metro Water signs MoU with Intl Water Association

The Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (Metro Water) has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the International Water Association (IWA) to promote positive changes in water management.

According to an official, Metro Water has become the first utility in the country to sign an MoU with the association. “The MoU will help the Metro Water to function towards making the city water-wise by adopting circular economy principles in water management,” the official said.

He added that the objective of the agreement was to provide training and education of water professionals, apart from encouraging knowledge development and research to promote positive changes in water management. Metro Water managing director TN Hariharan and executive director of the International Water Association Kalanity Vairavamoorthy signed the MoU at the  Metro Water headquarters recently.

IWA is an international body headquartered in the United Kingdom, which has members in 140

countries. The main objective of the association is to develop research and projects focused on solutions for water and wastewater management.

With the Metro Water joining the International Water Association, the city’s water manager could work in concurrence with the association and take part in the workshops organised by IWA.
