In case you have been wondering if there are any Good Samaritans left in the world these days, this incident might help change your mind: a teenager, who had snatched the mobile phone of a security guard and fell into a ditch and broke his limb while fleeing from the spot, was saved by the victim himself who alerted an ambulance to take him to the hospital.

The man even refused to file a police complaint, which, while noble, has left the city police wondering how to proceed with the case.

The events unfolded near an apartment complex in Besant Nagar. Bahadur (25), the security guard of the apartment, was standing near the entrance gate when a youth came from behind and snatched the mobile phone from his hand. He then took to his heels to escape from the spot. Bahadur immediately went behind the snatcher, later identified as Karthik (19).

Desperately trying to escape from being caught by Bahadur, Karthik did not notice the ditch in front of him as the area was dark and fell into it. Realising that the youth was seriously injured, Bahadur immediately pulled him out of the ditch and called for an ambulance.

“The mobile snatcher was rushed to the Government Royapettah Hospital where doctors found out that he had broken a leg during the fall and admitted him for further treatment,” a police officer said.

Though he explained to the doctors what happened, Bahadur did not want to file a police complaint. However, hospital authorities alerted the police as the accident happened during a crime. A police team immediately rushed to the spot and upon inquiry found that the stolen phone was an inexpensive model valued at less than Rs 1,000.

With the victim reluctant to file a complaint, the Tiruvanmiyur police are now in a fix, as they are expected to file a case irrespective of the value of the stolen valuable.
