CMRL launches hydraulic parking facility
The Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) inaugurated a hydraulic two-wheeler parking facility at Meenambakkam Metro Rail station. The facility would be introduced at other Metro stations to increase the number of vehicles that could be parked at a time.

According to a statement from the operator, 10 two-wheelers could be parked in space that could otherwise accommodate only five vehicles. “In this facility, five two-wheelers can be parked at the ground level and five more two-wheelers can be parked at an elevation of nine feet,” the statement said, adding that the paucity of space can be avoided by this facility using which 10 two-wheelers can be parked at a time instead of only 5 two-wheelers.
The two-tier parking facility was inaugurated at Meenambakkam Metro Rail station by CMRL Director (Systems and Operations) L Narasim Prasad.
The parked vehicles are lifted to top through Hydraulic power and brought down through gravitational force. Similar facility is planned to be introduced in other Metro stations, too, the statement added.
