Tasmac sales touch a new high, cross Rs 450 cr mark on New Year

Despite both the Christmas and New Year’s eve falling on a weekday, the liquor sales crossed Rs 255 crore on both the days.

A senior official from Tasmac told DT Next that on Christmas Eve, the liquor sales was about Rs 120 crore and on the festival day, the sales was around Rs 110 crore. He said on the normal days the liquor sales would be around Rs 70 crore and on the weekends, the per day sales would be between Rs 90 and Rs 100 crore.

Similarly, the official also pointed out that the liquor sales also touched Rs 135 crore mark on the New Year’s eve. “On the New Year day, we expect that the liquor sales would be around Rs 120 crore”, he added.

According him, in 2018, Tasmac’s total liquor revenue on Christmas Eve and as well as on the festival day, which also fell on a Wednesday, was only Rs 210 crore. “This year, we got the additional revenue of Rs 20 crore”, he claimed.

Stating that in 2018 New Year’s eve, the liquor sale was about Rs 130 crore and on the following New Year day, the sales was about Rs 110 crore, the Tasmac official said, “This year, additional income of Rs 15 crore was reported compared to previous year.”

“Since the authorities have ensured that many liquor brands were made available for the consumers, the sales were high on both the days,” he said, adding the officials have showcased additional 50 liquor brands in the city’s liquor outlets.

Pointing out that Tasmac had also increased its number of staff, the official said two staff were deployed in each shop situated in busy areas to deal with the expected rush.

At present there are about 5,100 liquor shops in Tamil Nadu that sells about 350 brands of hard liquor, beer and wine through its outlets.
