Bike, lorry go up in flames

A bike and a lorry went up in flames in two separate incidents in Pallikaranai and Vandalur on Wednesday.

In the first incident, Naveen (19) from Nanmangalam was a second-year college student at a private arts college in Chromepet. On Wednesday early morning, Naveen along with his friend was traveling on his two-wheeler on the Pallikaranai-Velachery Road after celebrating New Year around 2.30 am. His bike suddenly skid and both of them fell down.


Police said when the bike fell on the road, the petrol began to leak and it caught fire. On information, the fire and rescue team from Velachery arrived at the spot and doused the fire. Naveen suffered injuries and was admitted to a private hospital. The Pallikaranai police have registered a case.


Meanwhile, a lorry was heading to Koyambedu from Virudunagar. Around 5 am, when nearing Vandalur, the driver noticed smoke coming from the lorry and soon stopped the vehicle and jumped off. Within a few minutes, the lorry was engulfed in flames. Two fire engines from Tambaram arrived and doused the fire. The Vandalur Otteri police have registered a case.
