“For the next 24 hours, light to moderate rainfall is likely to occur at isolated places over Tamil Nadu. The temperatures will be at maximum and minimum are likely to be around 29 degrees Celsius and 24 degrees Celsius. In the next 48 hours, the maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be around 30 and 24 degrees Celsius,” said S Balachandran, Director, Regional Metrological Department, Chennai.

The rain also brought down the maximum temperatures in the city and weather stations in Nungambakkam and Meenambakkam recorded 28.3 degrees Celsius and 27.6 degrees Celsius. The minimum temperature was 23.6 degrees Celsius and 22.5 degrees Celsius in Nungambakkam and Meenambakkam.

Tamil Nadu weatherman Pradeep John said that the last time Chennai received such showers was on 2012, but even then the amount of rainfall was much lower than this year. “One of the most unique monsoons comes to end. Each region had its excess and below normal rains. The coastal stations’ averages are high, so one cannot compare the rainfall with the interior districts. The final scorecard for Northeast Monsoon is put up, though monsoon is still active, today and last night rains will go in the winter rainfall category. Statistically, the Northeast Monsoon has come to an end,” said Tamil Nadu weatherman.
